Some people argue that there is no point to our existence.
They see that in the scope of the universe, we are each just a heartbeat, and they have concluded we have no purpose
Right and wrong are simply arbitrary distinctions we as a society have created over time to restrict behaviors we have deemed unacceptable. Therefore, there is no such thing as morality. The only importance to our decisions is that which we assign to them.
I'm sure I'm paraphrasing the crap out of postmodern nihilists, but whatev. It's not like they care, right?
Whatever our belief system, for this life, we know that we exist between the blinks of eternity. We don't know how long we have to achieve all we wish to accomplish. And when faced with that pressure, we can either reject that responsibility and choose to turn away...
...or we can choose to matter to each other.
I can't promise that if you choose to fight there will ever be a victory, or a day when we can step down and say our work is finished. All that we may ever accomplish is to keep the darkness at bay. And hope that we don't lose ourselves in the process.
Maybe that is futile, maybe that is a losing battle. And maybe we are just delaying the inevitable.
But if by doing so I buy myself one more day... One more moment... Here, with the people who matter...
Then it has all been worth it.
Our lives are the sum total of thousands of choices. And the burden of that freedom is sometimes too much to bear.
But you won't have to do it alone anymore. We will find a better way.
Together.
