Conventions

Postby TM2 Dinobot on Fri Dec 21, 2007 3:14 am

So, uh, I took a look around and didn't see a page for Conventions. I guess I'll start one. Which also means I get to make the first suggestions!

Well, I'm in Houston, but the only conventions here are anime cons. And those have just left a bad taste in my mouth. All except 1. So I'm gona have to vote for Mechacon in Lafayette. www.mechacon.com. I go to that one every year, and this year should prove to be frickin huge.

I suppose if I had to vote on another one it'd be SDCC or WWC, even though I've never been about to make it to either one of those. More money for yall though.

But yeah. Mechacon. My $0.02 worth.

There was a convention thread in general discussions but it hasn't been touched in a long time. I am in Portland Oregon & again mostly anime, I've only been to one & that was years ago(too lazy to stay in the loop) But we are home to Darkhorse & have one of the biggest concentrations of bloggers in the world(nothing like networking) so that should count for something. Plus we have the most strip clubs per capita in the world, nothin like life studies for action sequences, just sayin.
I am here therefore I am, now where did the Rum go?

Do you know how rubbish I find it that I live in England right about now? x)

Just so this is on topic;; unfortunately, I cannot go to any American conventions. Three guesses why. n_n

Dragon*Con in Atlanta GA is a must to go to. It is one of the largest conventions in the US (around 30,000 attendees) and spans over three different hotels next to each other (A Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton). It is held Labor Day weekend every year and covers every thing. Comics, gaming, fantasy, sci-fi, movies, anime, etc.. Bands also play ranging from Celtic to Goth/Industrial and Rock or Comedy. There are tons of things to do and see there.

Only thing that sucks is for next year (Aug 29 - Sept 1) hotels are already being filled up. The website says they are sold out, but if you call instead of doing it online can probably get one. I reserved my room when the website said they were sold out.

MegaCon in Orlando is another big con. Very popular. I think it's the first weekend in March. If you want details on it there is a link to the con page on my anime club's web site www.animesushi.com. We are there every year hosting a dance and costume contest.

Dragon*Con

Postby thegreyman on Fri Dec 21, 2007 10:27 am

Well I've got to throw in my vote for Dragon*Con. I'm a bit biased here as I am the Director of Security for the convention. I'd personally love to see you out in my neck of the woods. If you have any questions about the Con please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for a GREAT comic guys! =)

I'd suggest checking other webcomics to see where they're going. Most conventions per comic go to Apple Geeks, Comedity, and Misfile. Saddly, 95% of them are in teh East Coast.

Devil's Panties goes to quite a few too! Very funny as well if no one has read it yet. Like the writer says "It's not Satanic porn!"

I've know Jennie for quite a few years. She really is great. Met through some mutual friends. She was the first to post a Shadowgirls banner on her website and give us a boost.
