HOW BEAUTEOUS A "Brave New Day" - SEQUENCE

Postby Charles on Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:10 pm

This forum topic concerns the scene/sequence beginning with A Brave New Day Part One.

"O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is!
O brave new world!
That has such people in't!"

Miranda in Act 5, Scene 1 of Shakespear's, The Tempest

Yeah, I thought Lindsey was a very strange looking Charon for a moment there. Amazing how something as simple as no pigtails of fury can almost completely change the look of a character.

YAY! Bixby the one eye Koala is back! Hmmmm, is Becka's left hand bandaged?

Could be- I thought immediately of the oxygen sensor they had me wear when I went in for surgery, though.

Also- Asshat McEyebrows! :D

Becka's fingers are wrapped up. (They got kinda scorched when she tried to free Misty from the electrocuting Hydra.) I was kinda rushed on this page though, so not noticing that it was Lindsey may really be more my fault than just her hair. Keep it to yerselves though. ;)

I thought it was her. Becka confirmed it for me.

Don't sweat it, Dave. Some great things have happened by accident. Penicilin, one of the musical keys (I want to say G...).

There seems to be a growing debate about the left side of Lindsey's face. When last we saw her, she had bits of glass on that cheek, and her eye was shut tightly. Now, she doesn't have an eye patch on, as we can see her eye lashes. And it's been confirmed she's doesn't have powers/won't be getting them, so I doubt she's got the Demon Eye dealy like Sawyer.

Or it could be like DRey said.

It didn't click right away, but like everyone else it's the lack of pig-tails that got me. It's not a bad thing, we need something to throw us off every now and then.

And damn is she cheerful, did she kill something or are they both gonna realize how badly they got hurt and have a weepy moment? The Destroyer only weeps to lure her enemies in close enough to be destroyed!

Is it just me, or does the last frame in today's comic make Lin-Lin's right eye require that it be rotatable well beyond the limits of a normal Homo Sapiens' eye? (Becka is behind and to the right of Linny, but Linny's eye snaps around and catches Becka's face full-on frontal?)

You sure she's no Offspring, guys? ;)

(yes, yes, I know it's probably meant to convey that she sees Becka's betrayed face in her mind's eye, but this was just too funny to me to not say)

So... I don't know what you guys think, but here's my 0.02.

Jack and Charon are never going to work together. Ever. She's too independent and has been too much of a loner for too long. He's got a very clear idea of what he wants and what he has in life. And let's face it- Charon's a party animal, and Jack's got (and I wish there was a nicer way to put this) entitlement issues. I don't know if you guys intended it this way, but I read a lot of Nice Guy (as in waaaahhh! women don't date me just because I'm nice and available so I might as well be a jerk!) into him. He's not a bad guy, but... he's not a really good one. And I'm not sure if I would have caught that if you hadn't introduced Sawyer for comparison.

jack has a family, regardless of it's current quality. Frankly it'd be rather shitty of him to bail on it for someone he abandoned years ago when she really needed him. Though I can totally see him trying then Charon is all like "Bitch! Family first!", brass knuckles may or may not be involved.

I see it just in Charons pose... he'll start to say something, she'll cut him off with something about how he's not making a habit of abandoning people when they need him, yadda yadda

probably no nucks...

and in the last panel, Misty cracks an eyelid open, the morning sunshine glinting off her golden eyes.

I'm still wondering what background Jackson has in regards to his sudden loss of childhood illness and gain in strength, athletic ability and social standing.

Not sure if its him or his family who bought him that privledge. Then again, maybe it was something about Charon's presence that made him sick *shrug*.

I think Jackson's profile pointed out that he has a strong sense of responsibility and even after Charon rejected him he only took Chrisy back because she suddenly found she was pregnant and he presumed it was his (or chose to pretend it was for her sake). Whatever he does, I hope he doesn't do it out of pity or self sacrifice. Even if he doesn't end up with Charon, it's time to either figure out that he does love Chrisy in some fashion and stick strong with her or stop dangling his false love in front of her and let her find her own way without some false hope of gaining his love.

Not sure why he's worried about Charon, but it occurs to me that he and Chrissy have no idea about her being the Shadowchild, so I guess all Jackson thinks she knows is that Chrissy testified that her friends were killed by Charon and got her jailed.

P.S. has Chrissy's 'BITCH' stamp healed? I guess if it has, she could easily cover it up with makeup.

As far as Jack goes... Yeah. We did that on purpose. I've said before there are no absolutely good or evil characters in this comic except for two. And even they're not perfect. Yeah, Sawyer and even ME Paul Briggs looks like decent guys, but they also got thier issues. (Paul's is kinda funny actually!) And Sawyer's got some messed up history.

Whatever, I was just happy to actually get to change Charon's clothes for a change and put her into something that wasn't borderline exhibitionist.

And as for Chrissy's "bitch stamp"... It's been a few days now. The redness is gone and it's almost healed. (That's something I learned from Mythbusters, is that the Phantom ring punch doesn't actually scar human tissue with a permanent indenture.)

One could theorize that, because she lost her best friend and developed this "love'em and kick'em out when they ask for waffles the next morning" livlihood, that finally starting a genuine, loving relationship with Jack would change all that. BUT, I doubt that, since they've both changed over the years and grown accustomed to their lifestyles (though I ponder if Jack would have the marbles to tell off Daddy-in-law and lose some of the privalege should he divorce Christmas and be forced to live like the blue-collar folk).
