Why did Shadowangel say 'but' here to Becka's statement "you saved me in that cornfield"
I think she said "but" because she was being stopped from a custom of her own world. In a situation like this, kneeling could be customary. Now, someone to whom she SHOULD be kneeling is telling her never to do it again.
This child of Nodens seems to be very much a tool to give "mere mortals" these dark powers. In many ways, as much power as she possesses, she seems much akin to a slave (not so much a "shoot off the leg if she starts to run for freedom" as a slave to a certain lot in her immortal life). The McKays are but the latest in a long line of humans that called upon her(/Nodens') power against the forces of Dagon and Mother Hydra.
Just my thoughts.
