Starkweather Studios announces Mythmakers RPG!

Postby D-Rod on Mon Dec 31, 2007 12:06 am

We have begun production on our first official RPG supplement! Our first sourcebook focuses on the setting of the Mythmakers world. As mentioned before, Shadowgirls and Starkweather take place in the same universe but they are not alone. The sourcebook is being designed for the True20 system (pending final approval) and we are very excited about letting you, our loyal readers, play in our sandbox. We are planning to release our first book in Spring of 08!

Will this be too similar to Dungeons and Dragons? I hate that kind of complexity in a Role Playing Game.
Good luck :)

It's actually a streamlined version of that kind of game, based on the True 20 system. (Which is a streamlined version of the Mutants and Masterminds game system.) You can find more info on the Green Ronin website. But the goal of True 20 is to be fast and easy to pick up.

As I said before... this is just... Awesome! I'll have to look into the True20 system, but I'm sure it wont take long to catch on.

True 20 simple

Postby Charles on Wed Jan 02, 2008 7:22 pm

They basically advertise the True20 system as a simpler version of D&D

But its a mere Template with very little meat. To use it on it's own, the GM (or narrator as they call him) would have to posses a very good imagination and Idea of the world you are playing in.

To use it, you'd need to create or use a world and translate capabilities in that world to match or use the rules in the True20 system. However as before the True20 system is very simple so this is actually quite easy. Many of the abilities we've seen from the shadowgirls and others, are already covered in the rules. It's pretty much just a matter of the DRs & Co linking those skills together, into a Character and adding any restrictions or further details.

The Mutants & Masterminds manual is also a template to an extent as it expands on the True20 system to give you further examples of people with powers or special skills and how you can plug those abilities into the True20 with little or no change.

Oh! and sorry I missed it in the Website but Happy Birthday Sas.

You hit on the exact reasons we chose the True20 system, Charles. It's very modular, and can be adapted to almost any setting, but provides a simple system to make it accessible to people. The part we are providing, is to make it apply to our world and give the Narrator plenty of ammunition to tell stories in that world.

It's very much like the "engine" level of a videogame that is flexible but allows you to place any genre of game over it.

Welcome to the boards. :)

I see spring of 08 for release...any chance of a firmer date? I have been promised that it will be worth having, even for the non-gamer like me. :P The reader in me wants to know when can I have?
