Quick and Dirty - Power Chart for the RPG

Postby Tainwulf on Thu Oct 02, 2008 1:09 am

Since the RPG forums are about to start going again with us older members doing a bunch of testing, I thought it might be a good idea to make a power chart to display where we should be.

Not the prettiest thing in the world, but for a non-artist with a crap program I think I did fine!

Hmmmmm... well, I'm gonna say somewhere between a fully formed Shadowchild and the seperated Shadowgirls. Although, realistically, we could group every character in the universe into one power grouping if we needed. 'Below Lin-Lin'.

For those curious about where we really would be, here be a quick and dirty text version that is markedly less humorous.

(From strongest to weakest)
Dagon
Mother Hydra - Nodens
Offspring
Shadowgirls
Deep Ones
Bloodwatch
Insiders - EoD
Common People

Of course this is unofficial, but based off what I've seen so far. This is more of a general thing when you consider the groups, as there may be Insider members that are very weak or EOD that have powerful abilities on par or better then the best Insiders. In the end they both are above-average and therefor in rough power they are relatively equal. Bloodwatch are the elite, they possess powerful abilities and connections and with the sole exception of the new guy (Who just might have had the misfortune of meeting Lin-Lin the Destroyer to blame for his lameness) are tough.

Here's what I would say to that, with my thoughts.

The Sources
???
???
Dagon
Nodens
???
???
???
The Shadowgirl, Mother Hydra, Medea
"Shadowchild", Alex Starkweather, The Master
Deep One Offspring Prime, Cartaphilus
Shadowformed McKay Girls, Bloodwatch Vanishers, Deep One Offspring Antecenturious
Bloodwatch Corruptors, The Templars
The Witch Coven, EoD Members
The Insiders, The Deep One Progenitors
Normal People

Also bear in mind folks... Lindsey is a normal 16 year old girl. And she's kicked more ass than just about anyone in all the damn universe, outside of Mother Hydra and Cartaphilus. Just because you may not be the walking empowerment of Cthulhu, doesn't mean you can't kill him.

is it so wrong that one of my character concepts for the RPG would do a stealth mission to known EoD Breeders and spraypaint "FishFu#$ers!" on the hoods of their cars?

Ahhh very interesting! I wouldn't have thought that Progies would have been so low on the totem pole. Something to keep in mind at any rate next time I submit a mission.

Also, that sounds like a fun thing to do after a mission Maz!

Here's my pure guesstimation on some of those blanks.
(though I'm not sure what to put directly under the Great Ones of Earth.)

The Sources
Outer Gods
Great Old Ones
Dagon
Nodens
Elder Gods
Great Ones of Earth
???
The Shadowgirl, Mother Hydra, Medea
"Shadowchild", Alex Starkweather, The Master
Deep One Offspring Prime, Cartaphilus
Shadowformed McKay Girls, Bloodwatch Vanishers, Deep One Offspring Antecenturious
Bloodwatch Corruptors, The Templars
The Witch Coven, EoD Members
The Insiders, The Deep One Progenitors
Normal Humans
Sick, Old and Young Humans

*********************************
What surprises me in this list is that Mother Hydra is above the Shadowchild. I had the distinct impression that the Shadowchild was more powerful and Mother Hydra needed the Progenitors to wear her down a bit. But as DRey said, anyone can get lucky or just show more determination and pull the winning card over someone more powerful. Heck, maybe that Noden's placing indicates the Shadowchild while under his influence (glowing eyes and symbol) while the Shadowchild is just Becka operating the body.

My best guess on The Shadowgirl being so powerful is that she has some artifact of Noden's (or another Elder God) to assist her and maybe more learned knowledge on how to call on his powers. I can recall that Susan Shane had glowing eyes, so if they're not another 'shadowchild' avatar, then I guess they get their power from another source.

I'm not sure what to make of the EOD Members being up there with the Witch Coven while the Templars and Bloodwatch are above them both. I guess we're not just talking the raw fighting power but the influence and resources. The EOD have more influence than the Insiders, while the Templars are a global organisation and the Bloodwatch have even more access to technology, training and high-ranking contacts.

I think the Progenitors are placed well. They're a cut above the average human who freezes in terror but on par for the Insiders who have trained to deal with them. Don't forget that they can't weild a weapon or drive a car and only last out of water for so long.

P.S. what about Mordecai and Annaline?

I've always said the Shadowchild and the Shadowgirl are two different entities. And the comic is called SHADOWGIRLS. This hopefully will make sense by the end of the miniseries. (I can't really say more without a major ass spoiler.)

As far as Outer Gods, and Elder Gods and crap like that, I wasn't thinking in terms of them on the lists and stuff. Those slots are meant for actual characters we have in mind to appear someday. They may be Lovecraftian inspired or original characters. But for now, those spaces are blank.

The EoD Members can be quite dangerous. Remember, we haven't seen a lot of them, if at all. And we're not talking on a one on one basis but more as a whole unit with all these things. The Bloodwatch... Let's just leave it for now that they are not exclusive to Innsmouth.

No idea about Mordecai or Annaline. I would guess I'd place them at Templars level, but honestly... They may be higher. I don't know. (D.Rod doesn't tell me everything. :P )
