Shadowgirl original

Just found some reviews on the original shadowgirl comic of D-Rey's

Damn it has changed quite a bit.

I love the suggestion of her "guardian angel" coming from her shadow. Guess she would have needed light to cast one or... Bugger!

Ah sonofabitch, I forgot that I originally had the comic on Toon Zone years ago...

Trust me, it's better now. Best to forget this.

So did it ever actually air or did you pull out at the last minute?

One chapter aired, but not much after it. There wasn't a whole lot of interest and to be honest, it was for the best. I had started to do a little uncredited work for Dreamwave at the time, who had the Transformers license. This was back in 2003, and I hadn't even met D.Rod yet. It was a way earlier version, that outside of the main character's name... It had no bearing on the present series.

I mean, it had no fish monsters, no Becka, no Lindsey, and no Chrissy! It sucked!

And in the new series she could give Max Pneumatic a run for her money in a fight.

Shadowform or not.

Just another discussion thread on "shadowgirl"

Unfortunately the pic has been removed but sounds like something different again.
They're talking about her being in a costume and those shorts and top didn't look like much of a costume to me.
Is it a later issue when she developed a costume, or just another variation of the character and story before you met DRod?

Charles, he already said those articles were no longer relevant. I fact I believe he said:

Sorry to sound grouchy, but...D-Rey apparently prefers the new SG. Let's let the old one RIP, if that's what the creator wants.

Long story short, and hopefully this will put it to rest.

I went through several versions of the concept. It was originally titled Threshold, then Shadowgirl, then when I created Becka, Shadowgirls. Through the several concepts the tone and the type of story changed. At one time, it was a crime horror comic and at another time it was almost a comedy book. The thing is, D.Rey the writer was coming up with shit that D.Rey didn't want to draw and it was affecting the overall story. Basically, I do not have the discipline to be a writer.

When D.Rod came on board, he overhauled the concept almost entirely. New characters and settings were created, a new direction and tone was forged. And he made it better. So much of Shadowgirls is D.Rod that I had no problem giving him 50% creator/ownership, because he did that much for it. As a writer, D.Rod has forced me to push my artistic abilities to it's edge and learn how to be better, faster and more effiecient. And as a friend, I wouldn't want to work on this project with anyone else.

The old concept is dead and will have no bearing on anything done in current Shadowgirls.

I wasn't aware I was offending.

I was well aware that these are long dead concepts and I'm not trying to suggest they should be rebirthed or somehow bear on THE shadowgirls.

THE shadowgirls rocks but I'm always fasinated by the development of the art and concepts. The journey that led to the story if you will.

Apologies for any distress caused.

I get it Charles. I think maybe the comments were more to reinforce that these are not canon, and don't have any bearing on what's happening in SG right now.

I also think its fascinating to see thee roots of where stories come from. Some of this history is stuff I don't know. (Of course, its not MY art on display)

And for me, I am very gratified that we have fans that care enough about what we're doing to want to know more about where we came from.

And lastly, to our own Mr. Reynolds. At the risk of making a German spectacle of myself, taking on this project has been the highlight of my writing career and one of the best parts of my life. :) And one of the reasons that this story succeeds is that we're a real team. (Do you guys know I don't even see breakdowns before I get final pages to post? I just hand him the script and see colored pages later.) I can make comments but the art calls are his to make. The same goes for the writing. And I will tell all of you here, I have never collaborated with an artist that had as much dedication to a project as him. (So much so that I have to oppress some of his comments so that you guys dont destroy the characters he loves.) It's a rarity in this business and this field and it really makes this easy.

But again, thank you for that. You're a class act. :)

Charles, I definitely didn't want to squash your enthusiasm. I just have a (sometimes bad) habit of sticking up for people. It wasn't so much offense as the sense the D-Rey just doesn't want the old concept to color the new. I know he's not particularly fond of the old work, which is why he hasn't posted it, so I want to respect that. I like knowing some of the history as well, but not against the artists wishes. (you know those sensitive artist types ) So, in short, I'm saying I apologise for seeming like I was fussing at you. I know you hadn't intended any harm.

As for a hug war.....HHUUGGGSSSSSS!!!! :D

I wasn't going to post for fear of spoiling a glorious message from DRod there.
But since Pengy did (lol, you know I'm kidding).

DRod:(Of course, its not MY art on display)

I think this is the message that turned the light on upstairs.

I'll PM one or both of the Dave's before posting any other old art I find.

DRey, apologies again for any distress caused. This is your art and your journey.

Look, I'll be honestly blunt about it here. There is a reason that I don't want to talk about some those older times. It's not just that I'm kinda embarassed by some of them, because I really am over it and it just shows how much better I am today. But some of those concepts in order for me to fully explain why I dropped them or stopped pursuing them, would require me to get a little personal and name names of people who honestly I wish to never be associated with again.

I hope you understand.
