Shadowgirls

There has been a lot of debate and confusion about whether or not all of the fishy faced friends are from the same race... I was looking through the old comic pages and comparing some things to satisfy my own general curiosity, and I found that the light house in the background of where the Slaads originated from is indeed not the same as the light house where the Deep Ones took Charon and Becka to meet the Ancient One.

If the Slaads came straight up from their origin (which I like to think), they are near the lighthouse with the cracks, while the Deep Ones seemed to take the girls to the lighthouse with the claw marks and the shed in front.

Did anyone else notice this? Is this just me being weird?

Also, while the Slaads seem to have thick skin, they look generally soft and mushy with big sharp point teeth and a lack of top lips. The Deep Ones have obvious lip definition with a hardened outer shell body and a sharp ridge back.

Their intelligence also comes into question, with the ability for the Deep Ones to communicate clearly in English, while the Slaads seem only able to bring across very general words and ideas (delicious, smell, taste, shadowchild).

The Deep Ones also seem to have the ability to shapechange while we haven't seen anything in that style from the Slaads.

While they both have many similarities, face, eye formation, ears, and sense for "Shadowchild" I'd say they are related, but definitely different species. If nothing else, they are rival clans/races.

Lemme throw one kink into your theory. That IS the same Lighthouse. In issue one you're you're looking at it from the south side, and in issue four from the north side. The location of the little shack is the givaway there. THe side where you would see the "claw marks" on, is shaded out. Yeah, there's a slight difference in hwo the lighthouse is drawn too... But that's just simply that I drew it better.

Well, Lovecraft suggested that people in the Dagon Cult made a deal with Deep Ones to cross breed with them.

So maybe the Slaad are cross-breeds or humans turnned monster (in Lovecraft I think you are born human and slowly turn into a Slaad) and the Deep Ones are the original pure-bred.

I guess that is possible, Charles. It would certainly make sense since they do look related in many ways, just not all. Sort of like the difference between Godzilla and a dragon.

One of my theories, I agree with Charles on that.

My second theory. The slaad are the youngens, who are yet old enough to grow the full outer shells and such. Going off this theory, the older one is the bigger they get as well. We see this as Scar is bigger then Beanie and Pinky.

I think it is more likely that they are the hybrids though.

They're pinkie and the beanie, they're pinkie and the Beanie, one is a Fishmoster, the other is too.

Is it just me or did pinky always sounds sorta english (maybe he just had a drawl?)

gay is a human concept, largely dependant upon having two sexes. Deep one reproduction is a tad more... involved... and things like gender don't really enter into it. It's like like how Loki can be a brother to Odin, and the Monther of Fenir, but a bit more freeky, what with the tenticles, and extradimentional parts...

Actually blood brother to Odin (not biological, brother's by choice, See here)
Father to Fenrir, Jörmungandr (the midgard serpent) and Hel (all three by the giantess Angrboda)
mother to Sleipnir (Odin's eight legged horse)
Loki was also a shape shifter so gender rules can be blurry
