Wowio is Coming

Postby D-Rod on Fri Nov 30, 2007 1:00 pm

How many of our loyal readers are also part of (what seems to be) the awesome Wowio service. I signed up a few weeks ago as a customer and it is exactly as advertised. Free PDF books and comics, 2 unobtrusive ads and apparently a kick-back to the publisher of the book.

So impressed was I that Starkweather Studios has recently joined and we're going to be making some pretty cool announcements about it in the near future. For now, you can download Shadowgirls and Starkweather books from the site and every time you download you help us make a little money. (Better than ads actually.)

The only downside is the quick survey and registration and you have to verify. (With either a non-anonymous email or other means). As always, please tell us what you think!

Awesome :)

EDIT: Only for USA? Fuck it. Don't they realize that the world is bigger than that?

Sorry about the US only thing on Wowio. It is my understanding that it has something to do with the way their ad structure is set up. But I have heard that they are working on extending those rights. I promise to look into it.

I agree; so bleak. There is so much I want to download from Wowio, but I'm stuck in stupid South Africa.

[Two-panel throwaway gag]

I vaguely recall something about Wowio from the depths of ancient memory, but never could be bothered to check it out. Until now. I already have something like 70 books in my queue, and I haven't even finished checking out the comics/manga currently available. Then, probably the classics, then the reference materials, then anything else I stumble across. I may never finish.

I wish there were something I could do to help our international friends, but I'm all out of valid ideas. Although, wait a tick, isn't the exclusive content available for a small donation? I mean, just tossing a quarter your way would grant access to the activity book, right? I understand that there will always be people who want everything for free, and if there are models available that can make that a possibility, that's fantastic, but...I think I'm going to quiet myself down now, before I cement my image as an Imperial capitalist pig.

In any case, thanks for introducing this red-blooded American to a great content-delivery service. You rest of you should all be so lucky. :P

Well, A) I don't have a paypal account and B) I could create one, but it would be a bit useless without some form of card, no? :p

I'll admit, it's been awhile since I've checked out PayPal.

I think you can attach any bank account to your PayPal account, not just those with a credit card. That assumes, of course, that you want to give your bank account an extra orifice, I'm just suggesting that it may be possible.

Much easier with a credit card, though.

Well, that would give it "just the right amount of gay".
